It is said to have been practiced by yogis during the time of Mahabharata. This breathing exercise is one of the eight parts of yoga that includes alternate nostril steps, Nadi Shodhana (Alternate Nostril Breathing), Kapal-Chakra Nasal cleansing exercises, Bheka (Toe Nose Breathing), Shankhaprakshalana (Eating Fiber), Trataka (Fixing your gaze on a point), Trataknadi Mudra and Bhramari (Humming Bee Breathing). It's believed to improve overall functioning of the brain, induce relaxation.
