Splish Splash - Badefreude
Ever since the eighteenth century, the Viennese have taken to the water to escape the summer heat. And no wonder, given Vienna’s location along the Danube. The first public open-air swimming pools opened at the end of the eighteenth century, with entirely unique indoor pools such as the Dianabad and the Sophienbad welcoming bathers soon after. The numerous and diverse objects from our collection offer exciting but also amusing insights into Vienna’s bathing culture.
