Position during labour is important, and can widen your pelvic outlet by 1-2cm. It may not sound like a lot but it is. Station is the level of presenting part of fetus in relation to imaginary line between ischial spine (zero station) in midpelvis of mother. -5 to -1 indicates presenting part above zero station (floating); +1 to +5 means presenting part is below zero station. Engagement is when the presenting part is at zero or below.
