Creativity

Have you ever caught yourself having an internal conversation that goes something like "...I'm hopeless at ...(fill in the blank)"? YOe of the obstacles to freeing creativity is overcoming negative self-talk. Here's an idea, pick a creative pursuit - anything... perhaps something you may have wanted to try but always found excuses not to... and JUST START... now the twist? Take note of your own Internal Dialogue as you go about preparing for or undertaking this activity. That's it. Enjoy

Have you ever had that striking thought, a burst of inspiration, perhaps even a solution to a thorny problem just come out of the blue? And you say to yourself, "I must remember that". Yet a few minutes later it's gone? Here's a suggestion: pick your medium of choice (we're old-school, so we use what we call our 'muse primer' - a notebook) and keep it with you and note down anything you find amusing, interesting, different, inspirational or odd (it's called 'priming the creative pump').

We spend a lot of our lives on autopilot. We stumble out of bed and go through our morning rituals and maybe 'wake up' when we get to work ... maybe. But what happens when your first act on waking is an intentionally creative act? How does this impact the rest of the day? Here's a suggestion - on first opening your eyes tomorrow morning, write down in a notebook the first thought that comes to mind. Then the next thought, and the next ... and keep doing this for 5 minutes.

Here's our challenge for those into personal creativity - grab a notebook/pen with you and at least once per day (preferably more) stop whatever you happen to be doing and take a snapshot (notes, sketch, thought) about what is happening around you at that moment. If you set your intent to look for the more unusual, you might even be surprised with what you begin to become aware of in your environment as you begin to WAKE UP the observer in all of us :-). Enjoy

Healthy Lifestyles

5 a day? Nope. The new recommendation is 10 a day - portions of fruit and vegetables that is. And while we're sure many of you already hit 5-a-day - there's some compelling new evidence (as if we didn't already know this deep down, eh ;-) ) to up the game and reach 10-a-day as a new minimum target. So here's what we're going to be doing this week - and we invite you to do the same - (it will take some planning) ... Let's do this.

We've all heard the recommendation to walk 10,000 steps a day. There's a strong suggestion that for those in sedentary office roles, the 10,000 steps a day ain't going to cut it - and that 15,000 STEPS A DAY should be the new minimum. (Deep down we probably know this... our ancestors certainly didn't spend the last 100,000 years sitting on their butts :-) ). So, here's our suggestion for the coming week - move (it's what we'll be doing)... see you out there.

How often do we skip breakfast? We rush through the work week, seemingly too busy to properly fuel our bodies - we're so rushed in the mornings, we cram what might pass for food into our faces while on the run. But what happens when you actually MAKE the time to ... well ... "break our fast"? Here's a suggestion - take time today (or your next available Sunday, Saturday, or whatever) and make yourself and significant others a great breakfast. And make it a habit of it!

How often do we prepare our own food? With over 50% of the planet now urbanised., and mass-produced food everywhere, and ever busier work environments, many of us rarely prepare our own food. Looking out the window with the first snow on the hills it's like the instinct of countless generations is making itself known. Time to gather. Now here's a suggestion - take the time this week to prepare a dish. Yes, it takes some planning. So make a family event of it - sharing is good for the soul.

Does a healthy habit make for a healthy lifestyle? Often we start out on a path of change with good intent and eventually run out of steam. We've come to the realisation that perhaps it's the sum total of the way we are living our lives that is conspiring to maintain the 'status quo'. Here's a suggestion - pick any specific change you want to make this year ... and then ask yourself WHAT ELSE would have to change in your lifestyle for it to have a fighting chance of succeeding!

We've had several recent discussions with friends, colleagues and clients on their desire to eat more healthily. We shared a few habit-building...
