The Golden Relics of Cologne
The Middle Ages in Europe was a time when the mortal remains of saints, as well as things purported to have been touched by saints, were believed to be imbued with supernatural healing powers. Churches containing such relics became centres of pilgrimage and inevitably generated income for the surrounding area.
