everything started here at the pc 3d acceleration - the 3dfx voodoo. it was not the first 3d accelerator, and it was not a standalone video card, but has the first biggest impact to the pc market. Video Card, Voodoo, The One, Everything, Retro, Cards, Instagram, Maps, Retro Illustration

the millennium g400 max was the last real competitive matrox video card. the matrox "dualbus" gave the highest memory bandwidth until the geforce256 ddr. practically meant, it was faster than the nvidia tnt2 ultra at higher resolutions. the 2d and the 3d image quality was the best on the market. this period was the last, when five manufacturers (nvidia, 3dfx, matrox, ati, s3) could create high performance video cards, two years later just the nvidia and the ati remained on this market. the Hercules Terminator 3D/DX 4M PCI is a S3 ViRGE/DX based card with nice 35ns ram, but technically not really faster than a common trio64v+ in dos, and the output quality also not a "champion". i prefer more the vision based s3 cards with a good ramdac. a high-end spea mercury p64 vlb video card from 1994. it based on the s3 vision 964 chipset with vram. i am not a big fan of the early spea cards, they need a tsr for the vesa extension support. the 964 with vram is a little bit slower in dos, as the 864 with dram. if somebody remember to my asus v6800 deluxe card, it came without cooler and the backplate. i can use the v6600 cooler and the v3000 backplate (one hole is bigger) for a while - so still wanted v6600/v6800/v7700 deluxe backplate and v6600/v6800 cooler, or died v6600/v6800 for spare parts. matrox millennium released in around jun 1995, it was a very expensive card (the 4m version cost $549). it is a very strong windows performer and the dos performance and the compatibility is also quite good. it is famous about the high quality analog output, uses a ti dac which also performs very well on another cards (eg the diamond s3 vision968). the ark logic never was a popular card, but they made the fastest vga engine. it is faster than any tseng, s3, etc from this 94-95 period. the ark1000vl was their first chip, the card manufacturers used the reference ark logic design (here the paradise bali 32). the compatibility is very good, but the output quality is one of the worst. the riva tnt was a big leap for nvidia - diamond viper v550 16m on the image from sep 1998. they called the driver "detonator" for a long time. it is delayed because of the manufacturing process, but it could reach the big rival 3dfx voodoo 2 performance level in a nicer package (2d/3d card, 32 bit rendering support, uptodate features, bigger textures, etc). after this point 3dfx never made the "best" card again, it was much more an alternative. asus v6800 deluxe with the geforce256 ddr. saved from the scraper - the cooler and the metal plate is missing, but it works perfectly. temporary i used the v6600 cooler, but it would be nice to finish the restoration. somebody could help to find these parts? i think the v6600-v6800-v7700 metal plate is the same, and the v6600/v6800 cooler fits. The Geforce256 was the one of the most important step in the GPU / 3D card history, and a new brand was born. The "GeForce" name originated from a contest held by Nvidia in early 1999 called "Name That Chip". The company called out to the public to name the successor to the RIVA TNT2 line of graphics boards. There were over 12,000 entries received and 7 winners received a RIVA TNT2 Ultra graphics card as a reward. Video Card, Hold On, Public, Boards, Names, Graphics, History, Planks, Historia

Creative TNT2 Ultra CT6810 was available in May 1999. It is based on the Nvidia reference board with the Riva TNT2 Ultra chipset and 32MB RAM. It was a very strong competitor of the 3DFX Voodoo 3 chipset, similar speed, but without the Voodoo limitations (32 bit render, up-to-date features). It is a good pairing with the Katmai based Pentium III computers. 32 Bit, Video Card, Voodoo, Computers, Strong, Board, Creative, Planks
