The Queen Is In Bloom
As the monsoon is gaining steam, another season is coming to an end. This is the time of year Valley residents may be lucky enough to see a Queen of the Night in bloom.Tracy Rhodes is the Gardener in Charge of the Center for Desert Living Trail at the Desert Botanical Gardens. She told us the DBG had some blooms just last night.
"Cactus bouquet" - this is a yellow flowered version of the trichocereus showing some longer arms, and again, at full size the arms grow to 6-8' long and will often go recumbent though this one is doing remarkably well standing up which some varieties do most gladly ~:^]>
Eriosyce chilensis (cactus) is on the red list of the 100 most endangered species. The species is endemic to Chile, where it occurs from north of Valparaíso to southern Coquimbo regions, on coastal areas only. The species is illegally overcollected and not found in protected areas.
