Johann Strauß-Denkmal, Wiener Stadtpark, Vienna, Austria
I can't be alone in thinking that the gilded bronze statue of Johann Strauß Jr., 'the Waltz King', is truly dreadful. However, that shouldn't overshadow the attractive surrounding arch by Edmund Hellmer; I'm afraid the photo under-represents (it was a very dull afternoon...) the way the ethereal figures emerge from the cloudy Laas marble. The entire monument was unveiled in 1921, but Strauß Sohn was regilded in 1991. Better On Black?
