~Sweet Melanie~

I thought I'd share a little blue with you for Christmas. I'm sure well get a little down around this time of year with missing those we no longer have in our lives, with feeling pressure of all of the money that's spent, or just feeling plain ole "bah humbug". But did you know the color blue can actually make you feel good? Our master in the basement has one window. With the winter months, I want all of the light I can possibly have in this space. Years ago, when this space actually had green walls with dark beadboard paneling, I had a vision of a pastel blue and white space. That's when I started my trek....painting everything in sight blue and white! I am in love with this space now especially here at Christmas time! Just look how soft and cozy everything looks! The stairs were painted a creamy white and lots of mirrors were hung in the stairwell to reflect every ounce of light. I love how the mirrors reflect all the twinkly lights. Our self made canopy bed is something I love to adorn with Christmas decor! We really do love our bed! Behind the curtain, I have an outlet strip attached to the wall for easy peasy access with turning on/off all of the lights. The pine garland with the lights really pop against all of the white. I am still loving this little cheap tree from WalMart! I am so happy I didn't go with a white tree again...the pine looks so pretty with all of the white Christmas ornaments. Instead of putting up the vase of white roses, I decided to add the pine and pine cones. Instant love! The "joy" plaque on the mirror was fount at Target for a few dollars. I hung it with fishing line. Fishing line is my bast friend because you can't see it and it's strong enough to hold heavy objects! I kept the mantle pretty simple this year after adding the mirror. I think this is the prettiest it's ever been! The battery operated lights keep it clean with no cords. I hate seeing cords! The NOEL blocks represent the feeling of Christmas perfectly along with the Angel wings. Our one window doesn't go without getting something pretty. Nice and light is my motto! More mirrors of course...the more the better! One little cluster of snow pine with some ornaments adorn our armoire. The office area got a few touches of Christmas as well. I bought the buffalo checked pillow for outside but fell in love with it here! Who knew I would like a touch of black? The grouping on top of this armoire, sparkle and glow with the mirror behind it all. This area stays a little dark since its cut off from our one window. Our door has a window but it leads to our garage which is a little dark. I can't remember where I found this little faux violin, but it used to be red and black. Painting it white was a chore but it turned out beautifully and adds Christmas charm. Pine is a staple for me when it comes to decorating for Christmas. Adding white blooms of all sorts with pine cones does the trick with making it feel winter-y. And what would Christmas be without Jesus? The greatest gift of all! I really love how the white tulle garland looks with the little pine tree. And the light bulb ornament I made a few years ago, makes me smile. Now tell me...doesn't blue make you feel better? I know it does me! I hope all of you are doing well and enjoying this holiday season. It's my absolute favorite time of year!

My new ruffly bedding

I love my bed! Today I finally put the ruffled bed skirt I ordered months ago, on my bed. It's so perfect. I really don't know why I waited so long. I am sure if your into looking at the decorating blogs you probably have seen this bed skirt before, used as a table cloth too ( I also have another as a table cloth). But you may wonder how mine seems to have so many more ruffles. Well it's because I used two of the bed skirts. Then you may wonder then how I was able to get enough separation to layer the two bed skirts. So I will show you. First I put the bed skirt over the box springs like normally you would do with a bed skirt. I just have bed box springs on the ground not lifted up by any frame, because I do not like little bunny Fufu to go under by bed all the time. Also I have so many memory foam mattress pads on my bed it would be to tall if the box springs were lifted at all. Having the box springs on the floor is what gives the ruffles the hanging on the floor look. In my guest bedroom I have this same bed skirt ( only one though) and the bed is lifted in that room and the bed skirt does not touch the ground, so it really depends on the look you want, I think I like hanging on the floor better but the guestroom bed skirt looks good also. Then I put my mattress on top of the box springs and put the 2nd bed skirt over it instead of a sheet. Now here my bed still looks too short. My secret is all the memory foam mattress pads I put on next. All the memory foam makes the bed so comfy you litterly sink in. My moms says its hard to get back up after you lay in my bed because you sink in so much Lol. But I love it, its so comfy. After I put all the memory foam back on (like 6 or 7 layers of it) I put on the sheet over all the memory foam rather then over the mattress which is being covered by the 2nd bed skirt.. That's how I create the look of so many ruffles. Link to where you can get the bedskirt Then when its all done, and all my layering is complete, you can't tell at all that the bed is just sitting on the ground, because it is plenty high enough. The pink bedding is also new, I found it yesterday at Goodwill it is a part of the line " Simply Shabby Chic " By Rachel Ashwell my favorite designer. My other bedding is also apart of this line and I am still keeping it too. But I am just going to switch back and forth while I'm washing one or the other. Which will be great because my bed is a king, & it's always hard to wash my comforter. It barely fits in the washer, and does not get dry in the dryer, so I hang it out to dry but it takes two or three days to do so. So it will be wonderful to have two bed spreads now. Whats so neat about my new comforter is its reversable! The problem is I can't decide which side I like better, I love both sides. I think I am a tid bit leaning to the first side that I showed in first picture, but then again I don't know because the other side goes almost perfect with the shower curtain in Master bathroom When you are laying in the bed you can see down into the master bathroom, and its looks nice with the comfter and shower curtain almost being matching but not quite exactly the same. My shower curtain is also a part of the same line as the bedding. Picture above being side one picture below being side, two which side of the comforter do you think is better? I just love how long carnations last. This one is one from my blue ball jar full in the kitchen that I showed in a picture I put on my countertop post two weeks ago. I must have bought these flowers like 15 or 16 days ago and they still look great! Oh and isn't this little pink bottle I found at Goodwill the other day just adorable? I had to lock Bella & Lacie out while I was taking the pictures for this post, meanwhile they were scratching at the door. They always want to be in the pictures Lol, so I let them in to take a few pics hehe they are so cute. I love my girls. I guess all that scartching at the door tired them out. I took these photos just now as I am laying here with them in bed, doing this post. Sleepy Lacie. Click To Follow Me Parties I love!! Bed crown & pet pictures proof video

Above is my bedroom You probably will not believe it when I tell you I found this bed draper hanger thingy, ( I am not sure what they are really called, bed crown maybe?) at Goodwill, already painted white, and already with pink crystals on it, the same color as my bedroom, and all for only 7.99 SCORE!!! I am sure I would have been willing to pay more than 7.99 for one of these that was an ugly color and had to paint and needed the crystals, so I feel like I got an amazing deal on this one. It is perfect, it was meant to be mine. All I had to do was hang some netting on it that I got at IKEA on clearance for 2 dollars a while back. I also have a curtain rod hang at the very top almost to the ceiling with sheers hanging down. Since my bed is king size, my new thing that hold the drapes just does not make it wide enough for my whole bed and it does not look right with out the extra layers. But with the extra layers it is perfectly the look I wanted. Fun effects on Picmonkey.com Everyone always wonders how I get these super cute pics of my pets. I made a video tonight during our photo shoot to show how well behaved they are for pictures taking they are just so use to it Lol

This

This video is my proof my pictures are real not photo shopped. My pets are very well behaved for pics. Hope you enjoyed my post & I hope you come back to see more soon.

Part 2 of Judy's Christmas Open House

There is so much more to show of Judy Hill's Open House so here is part 2 of it. I'm going to take you through all the bedrooms and how she had them all decked out for Christmas, JHill Style, of course. This is the first bedroom: I love that Judy uses things in unique ways, like the window hung above the beds, or the garden chairs at the end of the bed. Moving on to the second bedroom: Don't you love the creamy white linens against the brown walls. See it all looks so gorgeous! Finally, the master bedroom: Don't you love this canopy. Tell me what you think. Yes, there's more to come. If you missed the first post keep scrolling down. I'm linking up with Kathleen for her White Wednesday post.
