Snibbles and Bits

I just came across this lesson while looking for images for another project. Even though this lesson is not my original idea, I did implement it with several sets of students afterward. I do not know who to give credit to, so please, if you know someone who was at the Missouri Art Educators Association Knob Noster Retreat in 2005, and also know who's lesson this was, please give me a shout! In any case, I thought it was just TOOO good not to share, even if it's not really my idea! Enjoy…

plastic bag printmaking awesome idea to teach young kids monotype printing without it costing a lot - drawback is that the designs are not repeatable.

plastic bag printmaking

I fell in love with printmaking back in college and my favorite printing process is monotyping- drawing or painting on a smooth non absorbent surface and then transferring it to paper. A monotype produces a completely unique print with a process that is unpredictable, expressive, painterly and totally unlike any other creative process. There are all kinds of tools and supplies for monotypes (acrylic printing plates, the Gelli plate, etc) but really any slick surface will work- even something…

Sonia Delaunay-inspired color pencil drawings by offer gimpel

mrs. heller's art blog

My 8th grade students just finished their final project and just in the nick of time as tomorrow is our last day of school. They created line drawings using colored pencils inspired by French artist Sonia Delaunay. Delaunay's work is a fine balance of color, shape and line as an abstract form of art. My students were really interested in her work as they saw posters hanging on my wall and in the hall of her work so I took a cue from their interest and decided to develop a lesson around her…

The Lost Sock

Mineola ISD hosted our 2nd annual Summer Art Share Fair. Art Teachers gathered from all parts of East Texas to get new ideas and share their favorite lessons. It is a source of inspiration for the teachers and a motivator to try new things in their own classrooms. THURSDAY We began by Introducing ourselves to each other all around the room. We all told our name, where we taught, and something interesting about us that had nothing to do with teaching art. We discovered that although we all…

Gorgeous Abstract Art in Grade Seven

I love my grade seven girls! This is the first time I teach middle school art and generally speaking, I have to say it's not that bad. Teaching the middle school boys is another story and probably another post but they are nice too...most of the time. The girls however, are lovely! This year I…
