Gluten-Free Pepernoten cookies are small aromatic, spiced cookies of Dutch origin, using a similiar spice as for another Dutch cookie, Speculaas, but with more spice content and harder. These cookies have quite a bit of tradition behind them and play a big part in the lead-up and celebration of St Nicholas on every 5th of December. These sturdy and addictive cookies, but somewhat plain-looking, store all winter which is a good thing as they are continually eaten throughout the festive period.
