A Parent's Guide: Meditate With Toddlers And Teens To Improve Emotional Intelligence And Resilience
Meditation gives children a pause to breathe and imagine and allows for processing feelings. Children become quiet enough to pull away from their outer world and tune into their inner world, getting to know and love who they are. Then, they learn that it is okay to feel whatever they feel and be whomever they are.
Make it Stick Monday: Self- Compassion
"I usually write to parents about tools and strategies to help their kids, but sometimes it’s the parents who need support, myself included. It’s essential for parents, and especially those whose kids have special needs, to find time to take care of ourselves. It’s not easy to do, but if we don’t put on our own oxygen mask first, if we’re anxious and short-tempered, what good will we be to our child?"

The ultimate self-care is mindfulness. Learning how to be in the current moment with joy and ease, asking yourself, What is it that I want and need in the here and now, and how do I make that happen?” You power is in my choice … your thoughts, feelings, words, and actions. Not Just For Kids: Parents Need Tools Too!
First, as I’m practicing self-regulation tools and strategies, I try to remember to let my kids know what I’m doing and why. This way I’m not only giving myself something I need, but my acts of self care are also serving as a role model for my boys. For example, if I’m heading out for a calming activity like a walk or yoga class, I make sure to tell my kids that I’m doing this to help myself feel centered and calm.
Self-Talk and Mindfulness Save The Day!!
She went straight to Jack and attacked him, growling and biting his neck. I was screaming for help and trying to get her off but couldn’t. This went on for what felt like an endless five plus minutes and then the owner, a neighbor, and some construction workers came out to help. We got the dog off Jack for a second, but then she broke away and attacked again, this time to his leg. I saw the fear and pain in Jack’s eyes.
